Westbound (compass north) C&O GP40 No. 3792 is just south of Powell, Ohio close to the top of Powell Hill.  The 13.5 mile grade starts at HV Cabin in Columbus and ends just north of Powell.  It has a maximum grade of .5%.  The toughest pull was through the “S” curve pictured here.  Photo by Jon Bentz, 1977.

B&O No. 1448 at HV Cabin with the eastbound Detroit section of the George Washington (The Sportsman).  It has just crossed the Olentangy River and is crossing the ex-PRR (Penn Central) Bradford line.  Next stop Columbus Union Station.  The camera is looking northwest.  Photo by Jon Bentz, 1969.

C&O U23B No. 2324 also eastbound at HV Cabin with Train No. 192.  It has just crossed the ex-NYC (Penn Central).  Three railroads crossed at HV Cabin.

Per James Evans a third generation railroader on the C&O (and CSXT) 192's major work was returning General Motors auto parts cars for the Ontario Stamping plant at Harding Yard Mansfield via the E-L at Marion, and moving eastbound cars from Marion to Columbus that were received from the E-L in interchange.

The Sportsman is coming out of the C&O Yard “A” onto the PRR’s Bradford line as it heads to Columbus Union Depot.  PRR No. 5844 waits as the Sportsman will weave through the switches to the eastbound passenger main just to the right of the GP9.  The Dennison Avenue operator’s shanty can be seen behind the caboose.  The camera is looking southwest.  Photo by Jon Bentz, 1967.
