Buckeye Yard

The photo was taken from Roberts Road looking south with the Classification Yard in the far center.  The tracks on the left fan into the Local Yard.  Of the three tracks in the middle the left is the Departure Yard Lead, the center the East Drill track and right the West Drill track.  The drill tracks are used to pull the strings of cars out of the Classification Yard where they are then pushed into the Departure Yard.

The tracks curving to the right lead to the Receiving Yard with the furthest track on the right the West Runner used to move locomotives to the diesel servicing area.

A closeup of the Local Yard which had been turned into a Van Yard.  To the right is the North End Yardmaster’s Tower.  Next to the tower is the North End Locker Building.

The camera has moved to the right bringing the smaller Route Selection Tower into view as well as the Car Repair Facility with its three-stall building.  Behind the car repair building can be seen the two 1,000,000-Galon Fuel Oil Storage Tanks.

A yard switcher is pushing a string of cars into the Departure Yard while another yard switcher has hold of a string of cars in the Classification Yard.

Our photographer has moved west on the bridge to show the West Runner track.  The auto racks are curving into the Departure Yard.

The locomotives are No. 6482 an EMD SD40-2 and No. 6795 an EMD SD50.

An incoming train is entering the Receiving Yard while two locomotives are moving on the West Runner track.  This is an excellent view of the south end of the Classification Yard.
