Fields Avenue was located at the west end of Grogan yard. It was
probably located in a one story building. The operator had to manually
throw the switches into and out of Grogan yard. The switches were equipped with a table model Union Switch & Signal interlocker that controlled dwarf signals. You could only "get" the signal if the hand throw switches were in the correct position as indicated by the circuit controllers on the switches.
The first
tower west (north) of Fields was Worthington.
It
was from Grogan yard that coal trains left for the Sandusky docks with
double headed J1 and J1a 2-10-4 locomotives. The helpers would be
taken off at Lewis Center 12.5 miles to the north and backed all the way to
Grogan yard.
